Recommended Software

I only recommend software that I think is better than average for the purpose, and normally is free. Users will have different preferences so they will have to make their own decisions on use.

OPERA Version 7.21 (latest version)

The best Web Browser that I have found for people with any level of Visual Impairment is OPERA it is far superior to Internet Explorer. You can download it free from www.opera.com

features include

• ZOOM by increments of 10 or 100%
• customise background and text colours, invert the colours
• removal of tables
• removal of pictures 

License: Freeware

Mozilla Firefox (the browser that I use, not as VI friendly as Opera)

Information:

This browser provides pop-up control and a tabbed navigation mode that lets you open several pages in a single window. You can then load links in the background without leaving the page you're on. There is an integrated Google search, and the find-as-you-type feature finds links and page text as you enter the information. Privacy controls let you cover your Internet tracks.

The following keyboard shortcuts are available when the lens is active:

• [ + ] Zoom in
• [ - ] Zoom out
• [ Spacebar ] Toggle aiming on / off
• [ Up arrow ] Increase the lens height
• [ Down arrow ] Decrease the lens height
• [ Right arrow ] Increase the lens width
• [ Left arrow ] Decrease the lens width

To set up a shortcut key for launching the Magnifying Glass do the following (note: this may not work on all versions of Microsoft® Windows®, and only certain key combinations can be assigned as shortcuts):

1. Go from the Start Menu to the Magnifying Glass sub-menu (the place where you would normally start the Magnifier)
2. Right-click the item named Magnifying Glass
3. Choose properties from the pop-up menu that appears
4. In the dialog that appears, select the shortcut key field
5. Press the key combination you wish to assign to Magnifying Glass
